Dear Parent/Guardian:
Congratulations! Your child has been nominated for the Minds Matter Program. Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Participation in Minds Matter can provide your child with enriching educational and social opportunities and help them achieve their dreams of college success.
Since inception in 1991, 100% of Minds Matter students have been accepted to a four-year college or university.
To be eligible for the program, a student must:
--Have a strong overall grade point
average of 3.0 or higher (3.5 for Cleveland and
Portland chapters, 3.25 for Colorado chapter)
--Be committed to pursuing a college
education --Demonstrate strong academic
potential, motivation, maturity, and responsibility --Be active in extracurricular and/or
community activities (part time jobs included) --Show that he/she would benefit
greatly from a summer academic experience
--Be committed to attending weekly
Minds Matter sessions during the school year
If your child is accepted,
Minds Matter will:
--Provide a comprehensive three-year
program focused on college preparation.
--Improve his/her writing, public
speaking and critical thinking skills through an extensive weekly
tutoring/mentoring program
--Assign each student two (2) volunteer
mentors who are working professionals with college degrees
--Guide students through the
application process for summer academic programs and, eventually, for
post-secondary education
--Raise funds to pay for all summer
program costs
--Improve his/her standardized test
scores through an extensive weekly test preparation workshop.

invalid income and asset information can serve as grounds for dismissal of a
Minds Matter student. We use this information for summer program, college and financial aid applications, as well as to determine their eligibility for the Minds Matter program.
