Minds Matter Teacher/Adult Recommendation Form

Minds Matter is a competitive, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting bright, motivated and deserving students in preparing for college admission and success.  Participation in Minds Matter can provide students with enriching educational and social opportunities and increase their chances for college acceptance and scholarships. 

 

Minds Matter currently has chapters 14 cities. You can view our full list of chapters here.

 

Since inception in 1991, 100% of Minds Matter students have been accepted to a four-year college or university.  

 

To be eligible for the program, a student must:

--Have a strong overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher (3.5 for Cleveland chapter, 3.25 for Colorado chapter)

--Be committed to pursuing a college education

--Demonstrate strong academic potential, motivation, maturity, and responsibility

--Be active in extracurricular and/or community activities (part time jobs included)

--Show that he/she would benefit greatly from a summer academic experience

--Be committed to attending weekly Minds Matter sessions during the school year

 

If a student is accepted, Minds Matter will:

--Provide a comprehensive three-year program focused on college preparation. 

--Improve his/her writing, public speaking and critical thinking skills through an extensive weekly tutoring/mentoring program

--Assign each student two (2) volunteer mentors who are working professionals with college degrees

--Guide students through the application process for summer academic programs and, eventually, for post-secondary education

--Raise funds to pay for all summer program costs

--Improve his/her standardized test scores through an extensive weekly test preparation workshop.

 

Admission is highly competitive. Recommendations, along with the student’s application, will serve as the core of the evaluation process.
