CPE Mentor Application 2020

Thank you for your interest in mentoring with Capital Partners for Education (CPE).

CPE mentors low-income high school and college students in the academic middle from the Washington, D.C. area to provide the skills and experiences they need to successfully complete college and to excel in the workforce.

Please complete this application if you’re interested in mentoring with CPE. Volunteers who meet the mentoring requirements will be invited for an in-person interview with one of our staff members and will be asked to complete the routine volunteer clearance background check. For the safety and security of our students, background checks must be renewed every two years.

Please note that due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, CPE has suspended in-person interviews until further notice. Interviews will be conducted virtually.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Volunteer Engagement Team at mentor@cpfe.org.

Mentor Requirements

CPE requires its high school mentors to agree to:

  1. Commit to building a mentoring relationship for at least one year. CPE will support your relationship with your mentee and be there to help you build that relationship.

  2. Meet with your mentee virtually or in-person at your own discretion following CDC guidelines once every two weeks. This can be on your own schedule or during CPE events, whichever works best for you and your mentee.

  3. Speak with your mentee by phone, Skype, or FaceTime at least once a week to check in and to maintain their relationships.

  4. Find a time to check in with CPE by phone once every two weeks. You will speak directly to the Program Coordinator who supports both you and your mentee.

CPE requires its college mentors agree to:

  1. Commit to building a mentoring relationship for at least one year. CPE will support your relationship with your mentee, and will devote its own resources to helping you build that relationship.

  2. Meet with their mentees virtually or in-person at your own discretion following CDC guidelines during their school breaks (summer, fall, winter and spring breaks). These meetings can take place during CPE events or where and whenever your mentee agree to meet.

  3. Speak with their mentees by phone, Skype, or FaceTime at least once every two weeks to check in and to maintain their relationships.

  4. Find a time to check in with CPE by phone quarterly. You'll speak directly to the Program Coordinator who supports both you and your student.
