COVID-19:  We have suspended volunteer kitchen shifts.  We are accepting volunteer registrations, but no one will be rostered for food preparation shifts until we transition back to volunteering.

We are currently very fortunate to have a large number of people on our waiting list for kitchen volunteering.  It is likely to be at least 10 months following our transition back to volunteering before we are able to invite you to an information session.

Thank you very much for your patience.

Garden Volunteering

COVID-19:  We have suspended volunteer garden shifts. We are accepting volunteer registrations but we are not rostering new volunteers until at least 2021.

FareShare grows more than 60,000 kg of vegetables each year to add nutrition to our meals.  FareShare has volunteers helping in our kitchen gardens to assist with growing vegetables for use in our kitchen.  We currently have three kitchen gardens, one of which is a working farm where we produce more than 80% of our annual crop.  Our kitchen gardens are located in Clayton South, at Moorabbin airport and in Abbotsford.

Baguley Family Farm, Clayton South

This kitchen garden has a small number of vacancies throughout the year. However, it will be at least 2021 before we are able to invite you to join a regular shift.  Thank you very much for your patience.

The work at Baguley family farm is physically demanding and you will be working outdoors in all weathers.  You will be on your feet for up to 3 hours.  You will need to be physically fit and be able to complete strenuous tasks such as digging, weeding, planting and lifting.

Baguley Shift Times:

  • Monday morning (9.00 am to 11.00 pm) – weekly or fortnightly
  • Tuesday morning (9.00 am to 11.00 pm) – weekly or fortnightly
  • Thursday morning (9.00 am to 11.00 pm) – weekly or fortnightly
  • Saturday morning (9.00 am to 11.00 pm) – monthly

We will confirm your shift availability when we invite you to fill our vacancies.

Abbotsford and Moorabbin Airport Kitchen Gardens

Volunteer shifts at Abbotsford and Moorabbin airport kitchen gardens are currently full and have very long waiting lists of people waiting to volunteer.  If you register your interest in volunteering at these gardens now, it is likely to be more than 2 years before we are able to invite you to join a shift.

Other Volunteering Opportunities

Warehouse - Abbotsford & Derrimut

COVID-19:  We are accepting volunteer registrations but we are not rostering new volunteers until at least 2021.

FareShare has a small warehouse at its head office in Abbotsford and a large warehouse in Derrimut.  Volunteers assist in the receiving, unloading, sorting and storing of rescued food.  Volunteers also assist loading vans with food to move between the warehouses as well as delivering meals to front line charities.  We prefer that warehouse volunteers also have a full car licence to assist with short local deliveries.  Warehouse volunteers are also asked to provide their own safety shoes to wear in the warehouse.

There are only a small number of warehouse volunteers required at Abbotsford and Derrimut each weekday.  Once we start rostering new volunteers, it may take about 6 months before we are able to invite you to join a regular shift.  Thank you for your patience.

Driving - Abbotsford & Derrimut

COVID-19:  We are accepting volunteer registrations but we are not rostering new volunteers until at least 2021.

FareShare has a range of driving runs rescuing food and delivering meals to our partner charities around metropolitan and regional Victoria.  All runs take place on weekdays and most runs are 3 to 4 hours in length.  Some driving runs start from our Abbotsford head office and others start from our Derrimut warehouse.  All drivers require a full car licence.  Lifting will also be required.

The driving shift calendar is set each month for the following month.  We would ask you to be available for at least 2 driving runs each month.

Oce we start rostering new volunteers, it may take a few months before we are able to invite you to join a regular shift.  Thank you for your patience.

Packing - Abbotsford

COVID-19:  We have suspended volunteer packing shifts.  You can still register with us, but no one will be rostered for packing shifts until we transition back to volunteering.

FareShare runs early morning packing shifts in our kitchen, where a crew of 4 to 6 volunteers packs the thousands of frozen meals made the previous day ready for distribution to front line charities.  You will be on your feet for the whole 90 minutes.  Lifting and bending are required.

Vacancies arise during the year.  When we transition back to volunteering, you will be contacted when we have vacancies.

Packing Shift times:

  • Monday to Friday morning (7.00 am to 8.30 pm) – weekly or fortnightly

Administration- Abbotsford

COVID-19:  We are accepting volunteer registrations but we are not rostering new volunteers until we transition back to volunteering.

There are a very small number of regular administration volunteering shifts.  These shifts are at the Abbotsford head office and are usually 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays.  You must have at least 2 years administration experience and be proficient in the MS Office suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel and also in the use of CRM databases. Experience with Salesforce would be especially welcomed.

Vacancies do not arise very often in these shifts.

We have ad hoc needs for administrative help from time-to-time for specific projects or events.
