The Massachusetts Food Trust Program (MFTP) provides loans, grants, and business assistance for increasing access to healthy, affordable food in low-income, underserved areas. Started with seed funding from the state and administered by nonprofit partners, the MFTP prioritizes support for businesses selling fresh food that is grown, caught, or harvested in MA. The program offers critical financial and technical support to help launch and expand businesses that increase food access, create jobs, and stimulate economic investment in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the
Commonwealth.
The grant request component of the MFTP provides targeted assistance to some eligible applicants. The funds are for one-time investments in hard assets and/or in business assistance services with a consultant, such as business planning, financial management, food-safety compliance, marketing and sales, and operations management.
Please note that applicants deemed eligible according to the MFTP guidelines and that grants are primarily intended for applicants that are also requesting a loan to MFTP or planning to seek financing in the next 6-12 months. Clients who are approved for a MFTP Grant are expected to complete a report at the beginning of the calendar year after funds are disbursed covering how the funds have been used, as well some impact measures of the awardee's operations.
