As a community organization in San Diego County, we
understand the effects that even short-term hunger can have on people’s health
and well-being. By taking this pledge, we acknowledge that there are solutions available,
and we commit to taking actionable steps towards improving nutrition security
and ensuring that every San Diegan has the opportunity to lead a healthy and
active life.
To create a Hunger Free San
Diego, we pledge to:
·
Ensure that our organization understands
nutrition insecurity and its impact on the people that we serve. We will
support the use of available data from Hunger Free San Diego and create space to engage and listen to people who have experienced hunger to inform strategic solutions to hunger.
· Learn
about available food assistance resources and how we can best connect San Diego residents
facing nutrition insecurity to food by encouraging our staff to participate in a
Hunger Free Navigator training.
· Share food assistance resources including the Hunger Free San Diego Food Assistance Resource Flyer with our clients; examples include: creating a landing page on our website for individuals to easily find food assistance resources, sharing resources in our newsletters and
through our social media platforms.
· Work to advance data-driven solutions to ending hunger; examples include partnering with other hunger relief/nutrition security organizations, integrating food assistance resources into people's everyday environments, and supporting public policies that improve equitable access to food for all individuals.
