Continuation Community
Continuation Community
Continuation Community

This is the core service for schools in Continuation. Community focuses on establishing connections, collaboration, and improvement with developmentally similar schools across our network.

The Continuation Community includes one-on-one virtual leadership team meetings with a New Tech coach, (up to 10 sessions annually, scheduled with NTN Coach and school leader) whose responsibility is to serve as a thought partner, resource gatherer, and/or connector amongst New Tech schools. The connection to other New Tech Schools will be facilitated by an NTN coach and designed to create space for leaders to analyze, think through, and collaborate with other New Tech school leaders concerning shared challenges and best practices consistent across our network.

Workshops
Deep Dive Workshops

Deep Dive Workshops are full-day, onsite or virtual professional development experiences designed around common challenges that schools may experience. Workshops are intended to take place during staff development time, such as in-service or professional development days, and are conducted by an NTN Expert Facilitator. Embedded in each workshop are best practices around navigating the NTN Help Center and Echo. A school may enroll up to 25 teachers in Deep Dive Workshops.

Deep Dive Workshops include:

  • Assessment Workshop
  • Curriculum Mapping and PBL Design Workshop
  • Literacy Workshop
  • Math Workshop
  • Scaffolding Workshop

Assessment Workshop

When NTN schools shift to learner-centered, project and problem based learning (PBL/PrBL), they must ensure instruction and assessment are aligned to NTN Learning Outcomes. Workshop components include:

  • Review and discuss core principles and practices of equitable grading in a multi-outcome environment
  • Gain practical strategies for assessing Agency, Collaboration, and Oral Communication
  • Learn high leverage assessment practices in an NTN context. An introduction to the NTN Assessment Practice Cards and curriculum frameworks to provide solutions for incorporating effective traditional assessments, as well as alternative assessments suited to a PBL/PrBL, multi-outcome environment.

Curriculum Mapping and PBL Design Workshop

How can we create authentic PBL experiences within the context of our standards? In this workshop, an NTN Expert Facilitator will help teachers:
  • Prioritize and organize key state standards content into a year-long calendar
  • Integrate meaningful and authentic assessment practices
  • Sequence and serial key content and skills and school-wide outcome skills
District curriculum leaders are welcome to attend at no additional charge.

Literacy Workshop

How can we bring research-based literacy instruction into our projects throughout the school year? This workshop will support teachers from all content areas/grade levels in meeting the literacy needs of students in project-based learning environments.

Each workshop will include various focus areas, personalized to your school's needs. These include:

  • Intro to Written Performance Tasks. Bring challenging, individual written tasks into every project and content area.
  • NTN Written Communication Rubric. Gain familiarity and confidence with the rubric through a calibration process that you can use with all New Tech Network rubrics.
  • Foundational Literacy Skills. Learn how to support readers and writers while practicing PBL. At the elementary level, this workshop has a high focus on literacy instruction within (instead of alongside) projects.

Math Workshop

This workshop will focus on elements of a successful math classroom, tailored specifically for elementary and/or secondary teachers. The workshop will emphasize three shifts for NTN math teachers:

  • Discourse
  • Inquiry
  • Student confidence
Participants will experience a problem-based learning lesson. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have the tools to effectively plan a quality problem with structures and routines that support discourse, increase student confidence, and develop equitable group work structures.

Scaffolding Workshop

Meeting the needs of all students in rigorous projects can be challenging. In this workshop, we’ll define scaffolding and review the characteristics of learner-centered scaffolding for all students. Teachers will have a chance to experience model scaffolding that’s designed to support students in meeting project goals.

  • Learn scaffolding around New Tech Learning Outcomes
  • Connect scaffolding to an authentic benchmark/project
  • Get acquainted with NTN Practice Cards. Schools may purchase cards or a virtual option will be provided.
