Springboard: Hero Of The Month

Once a year in November the whole world comes together to remember our fallen heroes. At Scotty’s Little Soldiers, we know that for our Members and Springboarders who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the Armed Forces, remembrance is everyday.

Each month, the team here at Scotty’s would like to pay tribute to one of our heroes.

What we do:

We write an article about your hero and put it on our website and our social media sites.
We create a short video containing a slideshow of photos. This goes on our You Tube Channel and on social media. This is something that you can share with friends and family, giving everyone a chance to remember your parent.
The article and video are also shared in the Springboarders monthly email, families email and our supporter email.
We will put a picture of the them in our special Hero Of The Month frame for that month and hang it with pride on the wall at Scotty HQ for all our team and visitors to see.
Each Friday during our team huddle (meeting) Hayley from the families team will share with the whole team a little bit about them.

How we do it:

You complete this sign up form.
When your hero is selected (at random), someone from our team will call you to have a chat with you about your hero and may ask a few more questions.
The article is written from the information on this form and from what you share in the phone call.
You provide between 6 and 10 images of your parent and we create the video.
We share the article and video with you to check it is correct and that you are happy with it.

In the past, we have found that when Members or Springboarders take part in 'Hero of the Month' they really enjoy having the opportunity to remember and talk about their parent. Some have even been able to make new connections and friendships with people who served with their parent due to that person commenting on the social media posts. However, we are aware that sometimes it can be emotional and you might feel that you need a little extra support after taking part so please just reach out to the team if you need too. Due to this reason, Scotty's also asks that you don't put your hero forward unless their death was over 18 months ago.

I can confirm it has been at least 18 months since my parent died.I can confirm that I understand that I can reach out to Scotty's if I need some extra support after taking part.

Often when we release the Hero Of the Month publicly, we receive lovely messages of support from the general public. Sometimes people who have once served with the hero leave comments and share memories/stories about them which is lovely so be sure to keep an eye out when it goes live.

I am happy for Scotty's to contact me if someone who served with our hero asks to make contact.

We will need 6-10 photos to go in the video and article. Please tick to confirm you have the photos and are happy for them to be shared by Scotty's?

Heroes will be selected at random and due to supporting so many families it may take a while before your hero is selected.
One of the team will be in touch when your hero is selected to arrange a time for a call and will request the photos at that point.
