Global Learning - Faculty-led Program Application


Please make sure you understand the risks associated with your study/work abroad activities:
Traveling to any part of the world, even within Canada, includes risk of natural disaster, terrorism, severe weather, criminal activity, disease, accident, and injury. Traveling to a different country even as a part of a study program may include additional risk of stress or homesickness. Examples of these risks include but are not limited to:
  1. Risks for illness related to consumption of food and beverage depending on the countries.
  2. Risks in political, economic, or social movements that may cause distress or injury abroad.
  3. Different living conditions , such as shared accommodations, non-traditional restroom facilities, no air conditioning or heating, rural/wilderness environments.
  4. Different standards, practices, access to medical care than found in Canada.
  5. Different regulations governing environmental health and urban environments which may lead to increased exposure to pollution or other diseases.
  6. Increased risk of petty theft, crime, and sexual harassment/assault.
  7. Increased risk of exposure to dangerous, poisonous or disease carrying insects or animals.

*Credits for the GENE courses: 

  1. All enrolled full-time students are eligible to apply. 
  2. Students enrolled in a diploma program can use the GSO course to fulfill GEN-Ed requirements. 
  3. Students enrolled in a degree or graduate certificate program, do not require a general education course. Due to this, the GSO course will not be counted as a requirement for graduation or in your final program GPA calculation.  
  4. it is important to clarify with your Program Coordinator whether this GSO course will or will not serve as a substitute for elective courses within your academic program; and how it may impact the date of your graduation if you have to alter the sequence of your courses or placement.  
  5. It’s the student’s responsibility to make sure that this course fits within your academic schedule to ensure you are able to fully participate in this course and fulfill your other academic obligations.  

Fees:  

You will be required to pay an additional tuition fee (ancillary fee if applicable) if: 

  • You already have a full course load in that semester while you enroll in this GSO as an overload.  
  • You enroll in this GSO course in a semester that your program does not runFor example, your program does not have a spring semester, but you choose to enroll in a GSO course in the spring semester.  
  • If your program does not have a GEN-Ed requirement, but you choose to enroll in a GSO course. 

It is the student's responsibility to seek clarification pertaining to tuition fees. Please consult with the Registrar’s office directly at Enrolment@sl.on.ca. Please indicate your student ID and program name in your email to the Registrar’s office. 


Please make sure you meet the following requirements before submitting your application:
Eligibility 

  1. You must be a student registered in an academic program at SLC (including Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree and Post Graduate Certificate)
  2. You must be 18 years or older 
  3. Your GPA at the time of this application must be 2.0 or higher 
  4. You must have a valid passport, or you will apply & receive your passport within 45 days of being accepted into the program
  5. If you need a travel visa to enter the destination country for the study trip, you will apply/receive the visa by the start of the trip. You can find this information from the Embassy's website of the destination country. Please note if you are unable to obtain your travel visa, you will be withdrawn from the program.

  • Red card (Haudenosaunee Identification Card) 
  • Certificate of Aboriginal Status

  • Citizenship card issued by a Métis National Council governing member (for example, Métis Nation of Ontario, Métis Nation of Saskatchewan) 
  • Land claim beneficiary card
