The Work Force Summer College Immersion Program is is a six-weeks PAID summer experience designed to help rising high school seniors (current juniors) prepare for successfully for the college admissions process.

This Program will only accept 20 students and limited spots are remaining. Applicants are selected on a rolling basis.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

GET PAID through the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (currently set for $15/hr for 20 hours a week)

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:

Rising high school seniors (current juniors) currently attending either CRLS and/or Work Force participants who live in Cambridge Housing Authority properties. Eligible applicants must be highly motivated and committed to increasing their academic skills and exploring colleges.

Mondays -Thursdays from July 1 through August 8, 2024
Hours 10:30-2:30 M-W, and 8-5 on Thursdays

ENTRANCE QUESTIONS

It is important that you take time to reflect on the entrance questions and provide us with thoughtful and detailed information in order for us to best learn about you.

1. Please describe any challenges you may encounter in remaining motivated and focused during the 6-week/20hrs week intensive educational program. How will you stay committed and “on-task” in fulfilling the program requirements of academic classes and the daily homework? How will you balance your commitment to this program with your other summer commitments and activities?

Minimum response should be at least 4 sentences long.

2. Please describe your strengths and weaknesses in terms of your abilities in the core academic components of the program: 1.) math 2.) reading comprehension, and 3.) essay writing. Elaborate on your weaknesses in each of these subjects and provide us with information on how the SCIP teachers can best support you in improving in these areas. Please include the goals you have set for yourself to improve in these areas throughout the summer program.

Minimum response should be at least 4 sentences long.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Upon Completion of this Application, you will receive an email with a link for a recommendation that must be completed by a current or former ELA teacher ASAP in order for your application to be considered complete. Please keep an eye out for an email entitled: "Summer College Immersion Teacher Recommendation." If you do not see it in your inbox, please check or spam/junk folder.
