Officials Development Grant

Program Information

The development grant provides support to officials to pursue an educational and/or developmental opportunity.  Specifically, this is intended for an official that is in a unique situation (apprenticing, geographically isolated, or disadvantaged) and will provide support so that they may advance in the officiating ranks.


Funding is available for Senior Officials who have successfully completed four referee evaluations and who is attending a Swimming Canada Designated Competition and is apprenticing in a senior position.  This individual must work a minimum of 4 sessions at the competition.  Maximum grants available will be $1,500 per candidate and may be accessed only once. Swim Alberta will provide up to $3,000 annually supporting officials development.

Eligibility
  • The official must have completed their fourth evaluation and be eligible to work at the Swimming Canada Designated Competitions.
  • The official must demonstrate support by consistently working at provincial level competitions.
  • Must be an Alberta or Northwest Territories resident, with affiliation status as an official of Swim Alberta and Swimming Canada.  
  • Applicants who receive funding may not submit the same expenses from the same meet to the National Officials Travel Program.
  • Officials must minimally work 4 sessions at the competition.
  • An official may only receive the Development Grant once. 
Process
  • Applicants must submit a plan for their development and advancement to become a key senior official.
  • The application deadline for each season will be October 1.  Applicants received after this date may be considered if funding exists.
  • Applications will be reviewed on their merit by Swim Alberta and the Alberta Officials and Competition Committee.
  • Priority will be given to projects that are innovative, creative, and demonstrate initiative on the part of the applicant.
  • All projects must fit within the mandate of Swim Alberta.
  • Not all requests meeting the established criteria will be approved for the Development Grant.
  • Funding after the fact may not be considered or approved.
