There are two Arts and Culture funds available for granting
this year. Details for both funds are below. Organizations may only apply for
one of the funds.
BACKGROUND - Jane Deming Fund
The Jane Deming Fund is a permanent endowment at the Orange
County Community Foundation. This grant program reflects Jane Deming’s
commitment to charities located in Orange County that are producing,
participating in, performing or supporting musical activities, or musical
education. Due to her passion to improve the lives of underserved youth and her
love of classical music, special consideration will be given to programs that:
- Involve stringed instruments
- Provide tuition for music camps and workshops
- Purchase musical instruments for promising music
students
- Produce musical performances reaching new or
underserved communities
BACKGROUND - Robert and Doreen Marshall Fund for Dramatic
Arts and Classical Music
The Robert and Doreen Marshall Fund for Dramatic Arts and
Classical Music is a permanent endowment fund at the Orange County Community
Foundation. This annual competitive
grant program reflects the Marshall’s love of classical music and performing
arts. Funding priorities include support of dramatic arts and classical music
programs in Orange County with a special emphasis on the following:
- Opera, choral and symphonic performance
- Dramatic arts performance group
- Arts education for youth regarding dramatic arts
and/or classical music
Grant awards will range between $3,000-$6,000.
2025 Grant Timeline
- Request for Proposals Available: March 24, 2025
- Proposals Due: April 16, 2025
- Grant Decisions Announced: June 2025
- Grant Funding Period: July 1, 2025 - June 20, 2026
ELIGIBILITY
- Eligible applicants must be nonprofit public benefit
corporations exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(a) of the
Internal Revenue Codes, because they are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization.
- Applicants must be located in, or have programs operating
within, the service area of the County of Orange and/or its cities, or have a
majority of clients residing in Orange County.
- Applicants must operate without illegal discrimination on
the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin
or disability.
- If
you are a previous or current OCCF grantee, all reporting requirements must be
current or your agency will not be considered for funding.
- A
Nonprofit Central profile must be completed and current to be considered for funding. Please click on the following link to begin:

GRANT FUNDS MAY BE USED FOR:
- Implementation of a new program
- Continuation or expansion of a program, if able to document
history of compelling, quantified impact
- Organizational capacity building
- Personnel, facility, supplies, equipment, and direct
expenses essential to program
- Community outreach to targeted clients
- Staff or volunteer training
- Indirect costs, but an explanation must be provided
justifying the need
GRANT FUNDS MAY NOT BE USED FOR*:
Lobbying
- Annual fund drives
- Underwriting or sponsoring social or special events
- Telethons, or similar fund-raising activities
- Debt retirement or budget deficits
- Academic or scientific research projects
- More than 25% of agency annual budget
- Endowment campaigns
*These are generalities and are true in most grant-making
situations. However, OCCF will make exceptions when appropriate and after
discussion with the applicant agency.
ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
Submission of a proposal binds your organization to these
terms of use of funds and eligibility to receive such funds.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
- Proposals are evaluated by a review committee who will
determine the extent to which they meet following criteria:
- Proposed program is compatible with your organization’s
mission and the purpose of grant program stated above
- The program effectively addresses the identified problem or
its causes and can produce an impactful and innovative solution
- Reflects experience with targeted community(ies) and access
to the populations to be served
- Organization has the capacity to sustain the program beyond
the funding period
- Objectives are clear, compelling, measurable and achievable
within the funding period
- There is a realistic budget to support the program proposed
demonstrating efficiency in use of funds (such as leveraging or matching funds,
or seeking support from multiple sources)
