Musical Mentors Exploration 24/25

Musical Mentors Exploration Program Overview

For the 24/25 school year, Musical Mentors Collaborative is offering its Exploration Program to school and community partners across the US. This weekly afterschool program provides students with an opportunity to explore and discover the joy of music. Through engaging and interactive sessions, students will learn fundamental musical concepts, develop their skills, and nurture their creativity. The program focuses on music making and offers private or small group lessons in addition to the weekly group classes.

Open to students in grades 1-5 and through middle school (for certain school partners). Students are expected to commit to afterschool group classes for the duration of the program (September through April) and may opt into private or small group lessons on a limited number of instruments.

By participating in the program, students receive:

  • 30 group classes with a professional teaching artist and volunteer teaching assistants at the student’s school

  • 8 thirty-minute private or small group lessons on one of the following instruments

    • Voice

    • Piano/Keyboard

    • Recorder

    • Percussions/Drums

    • Violin

    • Ukulele

  • Loaner instrument, method books, and curriculum/classroom materials

  • Multiple performance opportunities including an end of year city-wide recital

  • Snacks during group classes

  • Free/discounted tickets for live concerts and behind the scenes looks at venues in their community

MMC prioritizes students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in music enrichment opportunities. We typically accept applications starting August 15 and announce decisions by September 13 - depending on the school or community partner. Group classes begin mid-September and private or small group lessons start in mid-November. While we aim to serve every applicant, we limit each group class to 25 students to meet our goal of an 8:1 (student:teacher) ratio. Should we run out of space at a certain school, students have the option to attend another nearby location or we will put you on the waitlist and contact you as soon as space comes available.
