Chinatown Afterschool Fall 2020 Information

2020年秋季teacher班華埠課後活動通告


Chinatown Afterschool Program is a free, non-profit, student-run organization affiliated with the Phillips Brooks House Association of Harvard University.  We serve approximately 60 elementary school aged children from Boston’s Chinatown.  We seek to promote academic enrichment and enthusiasm through homework tutoring, supplementary projects, field trips, and literacy activities. Next semester, Chinatown Afterschool will be a virtual program. All of our services, projects, and activities will be offered over Zoom.    


華埠課後活動是一個免費、非盈利、由大學生經營、與哈佛大學Phillips Brooks House Association有關的組織。我們指導大约60位住在波士頓中國城的小學生，尋求經由輔助教材的專案計劃、戶外活動、認字活動等課業輔導來發展學業上的進步與熱誠。下學期，中華公所課後班將是在線課程。我們所有的服務，項目和活動都將通過Zoom提供。


Our program is conducted primarily in English, supplemented with Mandarin if applicable. We plan to run from 4-6 pm EDT, Monday-Friday, for the duration of the school year. The fall semester is scheduled to run from September 28th to early December. Please note that due to COVID-19, our times and dates are subject to change. We will immediately inform you if there is any change to timing.

We take into consideration the following criteria when admitting students into the program:

  • Specific needs of the child

  • Chinatown residence

  • Previous attendance in our program and/or the Chinatown Adventure Summer Program

LEADERS!
Leaders! Term Time Information for High Schoolers


Leaders! is designed to help you become agents of change within their communities while simultaneously supporting you in academics and preparing you for the future.

The program helps you achieve your goals through:


1. Year-long one-on-one mentoring, including homework help, individualized support plans, MCAS and SAT preparation, and college/career advising

2. Part-time volunteer placement (at least four hours per week) at a community service organization

3. There is a 1-2 hour workshop every Sunday

4. Leadership development and civic awareness curriculum

5. Foster community <3  


All the hours you work and participate in are compensated!


In order to apply to Leaders!, please complete the Leaders! Term Time Application in addition to this form.

CHANCE
CHANCE Term Time Information

We are so happy to welcome you to CHANCE for the 2024-2025 school year! Since 1985, CHANCE (College High-school Alliance: A Nexus for Creative Education) has been one of the many mentorship programs offered by the Phillips Brooks House Association, with the mission of preparing high school students for the SAT and college. This semester, we have some great lessons and mentorship sessions planned by some of Harvard's most dedicated and successful students.

This Spring, our meetings will be taking place twice a week after school, with the first meeting taking place in late September/ early October (more information TBA). Sessions will take place on the second floor of the Phillips Brooks House on Harvard's campus. Each week, students can choose to focus on SAT testing or college prep, while we will offer homework help based on tutor availability.
