2025 New Jersey Glass Workshop Application

In 2025, WheatonArts will offer a two-part, seven-day intensive workshop during which eight selected artists will be invited to learn about glass and glass-making processes, and will be offered the opportunity to apply this intriguing material to their individual artistic aspirations. The workshop will take place July 21 - 26, 2025.

This is an exceptional opportunity for artists to utilize one of the finest, internationally known facilities for the medium of glass. Artists will work in the WheatonArts glass studio for the first six days. An additional day to finish the work will be  scheduled during the first visit. The opportunity to communicate and consult with Alexander Rosenberg and other staff will be ongoing throughout the residency.

During the workshop artists will participate in:

  • An orientation to the history of American glass

  • An orientation to the material of glass through various experiences with hands-on glassmaking techniques

  • Presentations and/or lectures by other guest artists who use glass

  • Presentations given by the participanting artists themselves

  • Planning the process of making individual projects with the assistance of staff, through the orientation to glass color, inclusions, mold making and issues related to using glass with other materials

  • An orientation to cold working processes (grinding, polishing, etc.)

  • An evaluation of the program

All activities mentioned above will take place at WheatonArts. Housing will be provided in a hotel located within a short driving distance of our campus. Some meals and evening activities will be planned as community gatherings. The only expense for the artist is the cost of traveling to and from Millville, NJ and a modest amount for food.
