Background/Purpose: CAFP represents more than 3,000 student and resident members combined and serves as a resource hub for 16 medical schools and more than 80 family medicine residency programs. To overcome California's geographical size, this committee exists to nurture the advocacy/policy interests of students & residents, facilitate communication across the state, establish relationships among peers/mentors, and promote a pathway into CAFP leadership. 

Term/Time Commitment: September 2025 to March 2026; members meet once a month over Zoom for 1 hour.

Eligibility/Requirements: Must be a CAFP member; Must commit to the term of service; Should be available for monthly calls; Must be a participatory member and actively contribute to discussions & activities.

Example Activities
  • Review resolutions submitted to AMAM (March 14-15, 2026)
  • Draft resolutions for consideration by the CAFP Board of Directors
  • Connect with local legislative representatives
  • Participate in CAFP's 365 online discussions
  • Become a Key Contact
  • Connect with your local CAFP chapter/district 
  • Contribute to the S-R Newsletter by writing on an issue/event
  • Identify learning/training opportunities for students and residents:
  • Organize and lead an advocacy workshop for other students/residents (i.e. resolution writing & "How to Meet with Your Legislature)"
  • Plan an advocacy session as part of FM POP! (August 21-23, 2026 in San Diego) 
**Members of this committee will be considered for a travel award to attend AMAM and will receive a discount to attend FM POP!

















We are seeking 2 student co-chairs and 2 resident co-chairs: the Student-Resident Council is chaired by two medical students and two FM residents. In in a nutshell, co-chair leaders:  
  • Serve as full voting members of the CAFP Board of Directors and the CAFP Foundation Board of Trustees
  • Lead/facilitate the Student-Resident Councill meetings
  • Assist in planning FM POP, Procedures Workshops, and networking events
  • Serve as delegates at the AAFP's FUTURE Conference and the CAFP All Member Advocacy Meeting
  • Time commitment: in addition to Council meetings, co-chairs participate in monthly planning calls with the CAFP Foundation Executive Director, attend quarterly CAFP Board meetings and 2 Foundation Board of Trustee meetings (board meetings are a mix of virtual and in-person)
