- BMG1 - Successful Communication Given Alzheimer's Logic, 2 Hour Virtual Training, $50 Stipend: Changes in communication patterns can frustrate both individuals with Alzheimer's and the people around them. However, there's often more logic than it would first appear. This workshop is set in habilitation model of dementia care. It will help you crack the code in early to mid-stages of the illness, so you can continue to connect in meaningful and enriching ways.
- BMG2 - Compassionate Communication with Older Adults, 2 Hour Virtual Training, $50 Stipend: Compassionate communication combines what we say, how we say it, and what we communicate when we interact with residents. The way we communicate with residents says a lot about how we view them and who we are as an organization. Join us for a workshop that will help staff to: Approach communication with empathy; Communicate with visually- and hearing-impaired elders; Communicate on multiple levels; Listen for and address more than the simple task at hand. Skills utilized will include centering, grounding and calming techniques based in mindfulness and emotional intelligence principles.
- BMG3 - "Caring for Residents with Severe Pain and Chronic Illness", 2 Hour Virtual Training, $50 Stipend: Palliative Care is surrounded by many misconceptions. With greater knowledge, patients and families could benefit from palliative care and healthcare professionals could use it to support patients with serious illness. Join us to learn more about palliative care, including how it differs from hospice and how it can benefit patients facing serious illness. See video clips from a documentary film and education program called Living With Palliative Care, which shows how one 85-year-old woman’s end-of-life journey was transformed by palliative care.
- EQHEAL1 - Death with Dignity: Compassionate End-of-Life Care for Nursing Home Residents CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: This training session is designed to equip nursing home staff with the skills and knowledge to provide "Death with Dignity" care, focusing on compassion, respect, and honoring each resident's unique needs as they approach the end of life. As caregivers, staff play a vital role in recognizing the early signs of decline and ensuring that residents' final days are as comfortable and meaningful as possible.
- ALZ1 - Best Practices in Dementia Care, 4 Hour Virtual Training, $100 Stipend: The Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter presents "Best Practices in Dementia Care" a 4-hour training detailing how to care for those with dementia.
- CFTC1 - Maintaining Composure in the Face of Hostility, 3 Hour Virtual Training, $75 Stipend: You will learn how to recognize and regulate their emotional reactions when faced with emotionally charged (anger, rage, rudeness) situations and people. You will explore the role their nervous system plays, identify specific triggers, and learn to respond instead of reacting in these situations. You will also practice simple, yet powerful, de-escalation skills to use in situations of conflict and aggression. Skills utilized will include centering, grounding and calming techniques based in mindfulness and emotional intelligence principles.
- CFTC2 - Finding Calm in the Chaos, Decreasing Stress through Mindfulness, 2 hour Virtual Training, $50 Stipend: Participants will explore the connection between how worry creates a feeling of anxiety in the body and how to begin to shift negative thinking patterns through mindful attention and intention. They will also practice various centering and breathing exercises to deepen their awareness of how to create a sense of calm and peacefulness in their body, mind and heart. No prior experience in mindfulness practice is required.

"Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis." **This Training is separated into two days, you must complete both days (two, 4-hour sessions) to get the certification and stipend.
