2025 JABC Award for Oratory and Presentation Skills - $2,500

Award Description

Oratory and presentation skills are keys to success in business and community leadership. This award recognizes achievement in the development of speaking and presentation skills and is open to any senior-secondary or post-secondary youth who has participated in a JA program within the past five years.


This year, up to three participants will be awarded $2,500 each to support their diverse educational or other needs. Award recipients will make a one-minute speech at the annual BLBC Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremonies to be held on May 5, 2025.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, you must:
  • Have participated in JA Company Program, JA Company Program for Indigenous Learners, Discover Your Pitch, JA Investment Strategies Program or JA Be Entrepreneurial in the last five years.
  • Reside in B.C.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Not have received this award previously.
  • Be aged 29 and below
Requirements
  • Complete online application.
  • Submit a 90-second video.
  • Submit a transcript of your speech.
  • Submit your choice of a: resume or personal statement.
  • Complete the Media consent form.
If selected as an award recipient, you are expected to commit to the following activities:
  • Participate in a presentation coaching session with a JA sponsor.
  • Present your speech at the 2025 BLBC Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremonies to be held on May 5, 2025.
  • Provide a current headshot and brief biography (100 words max.) outlining your educational background and involvement with JA.

Judging Criteria


Your video submission will be evaluated based on the following:
  • Communication (voice level and tone, pace, flow and organization of thoughts)
  • Content (addressing the award topic, demonstrating authentic level of interest, incorporating personal opinion)
  • Presentation (eye-contact, posture and gestures, appropriate attire, authenticity)
  • Resources for public speaking and speech writing can be found at toastmasters.org.
