Chum's Homeless Memorial Vigil honors the memory of our neighbors who were homeless and their advocates who have died this year. This service takes place on Tuesday, December 17th, beginning with a silent march of remembrance from ChumFood Shelf to Duluth City Hall where the memorial service will be held.
We invite spiritual leaders to offer a message and prayers, singers, drummers, etc.
We invite participants to bring coats/hats/mittens to share with our Street Outreach workers for distribution. We will need someone to be the point person for this collection.
We take up an offering and need someone to manage the collection baskets and volunteers moving among the gathering to accept monetary offerings, transfer into deposit bags (provided), and deliver to Chum staff for secure transfer.
We serve hot cocoa and cookies beginning at 5 PM at the Plaza in front of City Hall. We will need someone to coordinate this piece, from transporting cookies, mixing up hot cocoa (insulated drink coolers) and serving on site, as well as clean up.
We set up a fire circle, microphones and sound system, candles and candle stands. We will need volunteers to hold the banner, hand out the candles, manage the fire (and putting out the fire!), and guide sign placement.
There may be more, but this gives you a sense of opportunities to help! Sign up here and Bud Trnka, our new Volunteer and Events Manager, will contact you to work out the details!
