Individual or Team Lead Information


If you are part of a team please pick one team member to register as the Team Lead.
For collegiate teams composed of an undergraduate and a graduate student, to qualify for the Genspiration Prize, the team lead must be the undergraduate student. Masters and PHD students will qualify to be part of the Student showcase with other cash prizes.

If you are a part of a team, the team lead (you) and a teammate may join to represent the invention in the showcase if chosen as a finalist for the Genspiration Prize. Please list the name of the teammate you would like to invite if selected. 
If selected, the parent or guardian of the team lead will be contacted to collect final additional parent emails.



Academic Information







Please upload a statement of support from the local affiliate. The statement should describe:

  • The student/team members
  • The potential and significance of the students work
  • The mission of your organization and impact this mission makes on young inventors
  • How your organization would benefit from the affiliate Genspiration prize of $3,000.00

Patenting






General overview of how your invention can be utilized, features, benefits, purpose and objective.

Deep Dive into invention/innovation. How does this invention provide a solution and improvement to the problem you're trying to solve? 

Where does your innovation fit into the society's future? Is there already a product similar to your invention in the marketplace? If so, what sets yours apart from existing solutions? Think Shark Tank - Tell us why we should be invested in your invention!

How does your innovation have long-lasting impacts on society and the economy? Discuss the potential impact and market opportunities. Explain how your invention addressed this gap in the marketplace.

Describe the materials, equipment, methods and/or programming environment used to develop your product or prototype.

Video Requirement


As part of your application, we require a 1-3-minute video explaining your invention. Please review each point below prior to filming:
  • Watch the Inventor Keys for Success Explainer Video for an overview of tips and best practices to help you present your invention successfully.
  • Ensure you have quality lighting and you film in a quiet setting.
  • Wear comfortable, neat clothing.
  • Practice in front of a mirror.

Your video should include the following: 

  • At the beginning of your video, include this statement: “My name is/We are (say your first and last name or team name) and I am an inventor/we are inventors in the Genspiration Prize competition.” 
  • Describe your primary invention. What problem(s) does it address and how? Think about how you would describe your invention to a high school or collegiate student audience. What is/was your inspiration? What motivated you to come up with this solution? 
  • What is the business case for your invention? Discuss the market size and potential impact on society of your invention on the marketplace. How many people could benefit from it? How many jobs could be created? Is it already out in the marketplace? 
  • Clearly demonstrate and describe how your invention works.
Uploading to YouTube:
  • When you are satisfied with your final video, upload your video to YouTube. Please refer to the How to Upload to YouTube Guide for assistance on how to upload.
